Gennady Golovkin was born in Kazakhstan on April 8th, 1982 and he was fighting from a very young age. His brothers would encourage him to attack grown men in the streets as a child and he started boxing at the age of 8 and earned a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics as an amateur. Golovkin turned pro in 2006 and quickly showed that he deserved to be in the ring with other great fighters. Golovkin won his first title, the WBO Inter-Continental middleweight title on July 11, 2009. He knocked out John Anderson Carvalho in just two rounds.
Golovkin has gone on to win the interim WBC middleweight title by taking down Marco Antonio Rubio with a knockout in the 2nd round. Golovkin has had an incredibly successful career and a win against Canelo would further bolster his achievements.
