Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin “GGG vs Alvarez” are set to meet in the ring almost exactly a year after their first fight for a rematch that is setting up to be a fight for the record books. The first fight between Alvarez and GGG ended in very controversial fashion and it seems as if the rematch won’t disappoint in the drama category either.
Most of the hype before the fight has been about controversial issues regarding hand wrapping techniques and Alvarez’s recent suspension after testing positive for the banned substance, clenbuterol. But with all the drama aside this fight is set to be a cracker and Alvarez has made no secret about the strategy that he is going to follow.
During their original matchup in the ring, the general consensus was that GGG did enough to retain his titles, but the judges had a different opinion and the fight was called a draw. During the rematch, Alvarez plans to take matters into his own hands by focusing on getting a KO right from the moment when the bell rings to signal the start of the first round.
Alvarez has focused his training leading up to the fight to match his strategy of getting a KO as quick as possible. Alvarez has had to deal with a huge amount of controversy because of his doping violations and suspension and he is looking to silence his critics by making a statement in arguably the biggest fight of his boxing career.
Alvarez is known for his powerful counterpunching and he plans to rely heavily on his abilities to counterpunch in order to catch GGG off guard. In their first matchup Alvarez was moving around the ring alot in order to force GGG to come after him, but in order for Alvarez to win this fight he will have to adapt the strategy he followed during their first fight. It is expected that Alvarez will employ some of the same tactics that he used in the first fight, this includes holding, moving, roughhouse tactics, jabbing and body shots. But if Alvarez wants to win this fight he has to not only fight very hard for the first minute of every round in order to impress the judges but he will also have to also create opportunities for himself to possibly deliver a knockout punch.
Regardless of the strategy that he does end up using this fight is sure to be a cracker of a fight that can’t be missed.
